This blue crayfish, known as
the Painted-hand Mud-bug (Cambarus polychromatus)
turned up at a wetland mitigation site in Miami
County. The coloration of this burrowing species
is highly variable. It is often brighter than
its open water relatives, which tend to be dull
brown to blend in with the rocks and leaves in
their aquatic environment
