Project Summary: Parkland Floristic Studies

Client: Municipal department with land management responsibilities
Location: Central Ohio
Project Type: Floristic Inventory
Project Dates: Five visits between May 2006 and February 2007.
Project Description: MAD Scientist & Associates, was retained to complete floristic inventories for two parks and one nature preserve. The surveys included four primary tasks: a series of seasonal field surveys to thoroughly inventory plants (including Threatened and Endangered, or T&E, species) and gather size and location data on trees exceeding 24” dbh; an evaluation of the natural plant community using the Floristic Quality Assessment Index (FQAI); an evaluation of aerial photo-graphs to identify land use changes over the past half century; and the development of a report on the findings. The team was also asked to record observations of wildlife and to search for records of T&E species known to occur in or near each inventory site.
