Otterbein Lake Enhancement
"A group of central Ohio residents working with
the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department is
aiming to develop Otterbein Lake to be a scenic,
environmental, educational, and recreational
resource for the community. This nearly rectangular
lake formed from an abandoned 8-acre borrow pit. MAD
Scientist & Associates was contacted to help with
planning, including assistance with a site design
and planting plan for the project." This has become
one of several community service projects supported
by the company.

Park and Floristic Surveys
MAD Scientist & Associates, was retained to
complete floristic inventories for two parks and one
nature preserve by parks department of a central
Ohio municipality to aid the department in land
management and park development planning activities.

Heritage Park Phase II Mitigation
A municipal client sought to build three athletic
fields within a portion of the 100-year floodplain.
Due to natural and man-made circumstances at the
site, a total of 7.88 acres of wetlands had
developed. MAD Scientist & Associates was contracted
to perform all wetland delineation, evaluation,
permitting and mitigation duties. Through this
involvement, we were able to help the project team
accomplish the project goals, while protecting
wetlands and respecting the sensitive local
environment.

Vegetation Index of Biotic Integrity - VIBI
The MAD Scientist & Associates team was
contracted to calculate VIBI scores to resolve
disagreement regarding the anti-degradation
categories of two wetlands (derived using the Ohio
Rapid Assessment Method) on properties along Grand
Lake near St. Mary’s, Ohio.

Mitigation Wetland Monitoring
To compensate for unavoidable impacts to 1.93
acres of wetland, a municipal client agreed to
create at least 4.8 acres of forested wetland. Upon
completion of wetland construction, MAD Scientist &
Associates was contracted to perform the five years
of monitoring as required by the permit issued by
the Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the Ohio
EPA.
